Olena Uvarova

Historian and Associate Professor at the Department of Social Sciences, Odesa National Medical University. She earned her PhD in History from Odesa I. I. Mechnikov National University (2008). Her primary research focuses on the history of the Greek community in 19th-century Odesa. In 2023, she was awarded the honorary title of Professional Delegate of the Hellenic Foundation for Culture (Athens) in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of Greek culture and civilization. Additionally, her research explores the history of medicine in Odesa and the development of higher medical education for women in early 20th-century Ukraine, with a particular focus on the Odesa Higher Women’s Medical Courses (1910–1920).

She has held fellowships at the Centre for Advanced Study (Sofia, Bulgaria, 2026); the Aleksanteri Institute, University of Helsinki (Finland, 2025, 2023); the New Europe College – Institute for Advanced Study (Bucharest, Romania, 2024–2025); and the Linda Hall Library (Kansas City, USA, 2024).
